Brick church with distinctive interior features

Pampow Church was built from 1896 to 1898 to designs by architect and church building councillor Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel. It was consecrated at a festive service on 17 July 1898. Its neo-Gothic brick structure is combined with Romanesque stylistic elements inside. Different architectural influences thus come together in a building whose history can be traced back to its construction in the late 19th century.

The furnishings include galleries, an altar and a pulpit. Together with the organ case designed by Möckel, they form an ensemble of finely crafted woodwork. A wooden barrel vault with ornamental metal struts lies between the galleries. It is a heavily drained fen complex formed through the silting up of a shallow, island-rich glacial till lake.

Most of the moor consists of grassland used for meadows and pasture. At the same time, the landscape is shaped by its origins as a moor. This combination of geological development and present-day land use presents a nature theme different from that of a purely forested or coastal landscape: the focus is on fen, grassland and the history of a lake that silted up.

To date, 98 bird species have been recorded in the Siebendörfer Moor, including 57 breeding species. These figures refer to the moor area, which also extends into the municipality of Pampow. They offer nature lovers a tangible indication of the diversity of bird species recorded there. Together with its designated conservation status and use as meadow and pastureland, they provide a nuanced picture of this landscape.

Village history, music and events

The Fährweg runs through the village of Pampow and was once part of the old salt road from Wismar to Lüneburg.
