Rastow is located about 20 kilometres south of Schwerin, on the edge of the Lewitz landscape conservation area.
Landscape and Bodies of Water
The Mühlenberg is located nearby, east of Rastow. At 56 metres above sea level, it is the highest elevation in the municipality. The Mühlenberg is part of the Mecklenburg-Brandenburg Plateau and Hills region in the southwestern foothills of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
The municipality includes the Kraaker Mühlenbach, the Streubach and several drainage ditches. The artificially created Kraaker Kiessee is one of the few standing bodies of water in the municipality.
Culture and Surroundings
Kraak has a Protestant church that is considered to be a former Johanniter church. In the surrounding area of Rastow, Ludwigslust is home to the “Catholic Church of St Helena and St Andrew”. The Zachun water-ski lift is also located in the surrounding area.
In the wider regional area around Rastow are the Schwerin-Zippendorf television tower, Schwerin State Museum, Schwerin Zoo, the Pingelhof and the Wendish castle rampart.
The following also belong to the same higher-level administrative unit: Bresegard Bei Eldena, Uelitz, Göhlen, Sülstorf, Alt Krenzlin, Lübesse, Groß Laasch and Wöbbelin.
