Village history in Krenzliner HĂĽtte, Klein Krams and Loosen
Krenzliner HĂĽtte grew out of a peat-glassworks established in 1743 on the Klein Krams peat bog. The glassworks was closed in 1779. Only the place name and the field name Glasschmelze (glass smelting works) have survived. This history therefore reaches back to a time when the peat bog played a role in the glassworks.
The village layouts also tell the story of the community’s development. Klein Krams still has the layout of a classic circular village. Loosen, the oldest and highest-lying locality in the municipality of Alt Krenzlin, lies at 54 m above sea level (NHN) and was originally laid out as a circular village as well. Anyone interested in how places have evolved can explore these two distinct village settings.
Cultural venue and events
Krenzliner Hütte is home to kramserei, a cultural venue in a historic hall farmhouse. The building includes a hall with a stage, a stable and a carriage shed. Its offerings include a sound workshop, theatre, live radio plays and cinema. There is also a garden café, a farm shop, a stable bistro, a flea-market barn and market days; rooms are also available for seminars and workshops. The cultural venue brings together a variety of cultural and social events in one place.
Community celebrations are also part of life in the municipality. Since 1982, a village festival for all the localities has traditionally been held in the potato barn of Agrarproduktion Alt Krenzlin e.G. in Krenzliner Hütte. The municipality’s Oktoberfest was held for the third year in a row at the village community centre in Loosen on 13 September 2025. On 30 April 2026, as in the previous year, a decorated maypole was once again traditionally erected in Alt Krenzlin. These dates give an overview of events that have already taken place, not a future events calendar.
Every year, the localities and municipalities of Alt Krenzlin, Glaisin, Göhlen and Leussow organise a children’s day party. The 2026 event in Klein Krams included activities such as archery and activities with the fire brigade. This retrospective gives specific examples of the event’s activities without anticipating a future programme.
Rest areas, canal views and routes
A weather shelter in Klein Krams Ausbau offers a direct view of the Ludwigslust Canal and the biotope around the fish ladder. The small shelter is a possible stopping point for walkers and cyclists from nearby villages and municipalities, as well as for guests staying at local farms. A designated bridleway from the stud farm in Neustadt Dosse to Redefin passes directly by the shelter. The cycle path between Göhlen and Leussow is a separate route, offering cyclists the option of a detour to Klein Krams Ausbau.
In the Alt Krenzlin locality, there is a rest and seating area by the bus turning loop, which was inaugurated in March 2024. It has play equipment; one section is fenced off for safety reasons. A bench and three newly planted trees complete the area, inviting visitors, cyclists and hikers to stop and rest.
