Geographical location

Hoort is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The village is located about 14 kilometres south of Schwerin and in the Schwerin–Hagenow–Ludwigslust railway triangle.

Townscape and history

The two villages of Hoort have the character of typical linear villages. Their settlement pattern initially developed through scattered settlement and was later shaped by infill development.

Hoort was first documented in 1227. From 1227 to 1550, the village belonged to the Kraak Commandery of the Order of St. John.

Nature

Tannenwerder (Dead Island) is located in the area surrounding Hoort. Großer Werder, Kaninchenwerder and Schwaneninsel are also located in the wider regional area.

Culture and leisure

The Schwerin-Zippendorf television tower is located in the area surrounding Hoort. The Zachun water-ski lift is situated nearby. “Schwerin, Landesmuseum” and Pingelhof are located in the wider regional area.

Getting there

The nearest railway station is the Zachun stop near Alt Zachun. The A24 motorway runs approximately 2.5 kilometres south of the two villages of Hoort.
