Gielow is situated on a gently rolling plateau between 40 and 70 metres above sea level; strips of woodland border the municipality. Located around six kilometres south of Malchin, the municipality belongs to the Malchin am Kummerower See administrative district. Gielow is a municipality in the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Location and Landscape

Gielow is situated around 6.5 kilometres east of Lake Malchin. The Ostpeene erosion valley lies east of Gielow. The municipality places importance on preserving and maintaining its natural habitats.

The surrounding area includes Burgwallinsel, Organistenberg, Schießberg, Burg Schlitz and Kittendorf Village Church. Warenskenberg is located nearby. The wider regional area is home to the Thünen Museum and Wildberg.

Culture and History

The coat of arms of Gielow features a horseshoe symbolising traditional agriculture. It also refers to the municipality’s former affiliation with the Cistercian monastery in Dargun.
