Målerås: Accommodation for Glass Art and Nature Trails
Accommodation in Målerås
Målerås in Nybro Municipality, Kalmar County, is a destination for travellers who want to combine glass art with a stay in the countryside. If you are looking for a hotel, holiday apartment or holiday home, you can choose accommodation based on your planned visit to Målerås Glasbruk and the nearby trails that suit you.
See glass art, watch it being made or take part yourself
The exhibition hall at Målerås Glasbruk displays and sells limited-edition art glass and unique pieces. A guided tour with a Glass House Show begins in the gallery with a retrospective of designer Mats Jonasson. In the Open Glass House, you can then watch glowing glass being shaped into sculptures. The exhibition and the opportunity to observe the craft offer different ways to experience the same material.
A separate, bookable activity lets you try glassblowing yourself: during a described 30-minute session, you create a personal crystal object with guidance from a master glassblower. Check dates, participation requirements and seasonal availability before planning your stay around it. Visiting the exhibition alone does not automatically include the opportunity to try glassblowing.
A glass destination with other craft experiences
Målerås is one of the six well-preserved glassworks environments in Nybro Municipality. The municipality describes the area as being of national cultural-historical interest. So, alongside individual glass objects, it is worth looking at the historic setting in which they were made.
According to visitor information, seven craftspeople showcase their work under one roof at the House of Crafts next to the Crystal Shop. Outside the factory is also the Children's Kingdom of Crystal, a glass-themed area with a creative playground and a mini glass-melting house. This is distinct from supervised work in the actual glassblowing room; this description does not guarantee any age requirements or the opportunity to participate for free.
Choose between a short lakeside trail and Gråstensmon
Just outside Målerås, by Road 31, a two-kilometre trail loops around Långegöl. It offers a clearly defined, shorter option to add to a glassworks visit. No unverified walking time or accessibility features are promised.
The nearby Gråstensmon hiking trail, by contrast, is approximately seven kilometres long and described as moderately difficult. The area features a stagnation moraine shaped by the melting of the inland ice sheet, as well as wetlands with transitional mires and floating bogs. Its greater length and stated difficulty suggest planning this outing separately from the short lakeside trail.
Framtidsleden also passes through Målerås, and several cycling routes start in the village. Which specific route suits your schedule and equipment should be decided on site, based on the actual route; simply mentioning several trails does not establish a particular loop route.
Plan your booking around your own itinerary
First, secure a confirmed glassblowing or guided-tour time if it is the main reason for your trip. Then compare the accommodation address, the outings you have in mind and the services the property actually promises. This keeps booked activities and accommodation clearly separate, without presenting craft activities or rental offers as standard hotel amenities.
