Högsby can be explored through several distinct interests: riverside scenery and historic houses, sacred art, or exercise along a trail. Högsby Church and Lanhagen are in the centre by the Emån; the Trollbergsrundan offers a separate exercise route. When choosing where to stay, it is worth first considering which of these aspects you want to shape your day. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose your destination based on the experiences you have planned and weigh the different options against each other.

Lanhagen: Houses and river

At Lanhagen, the river and local rural heritage come together on a walking trail that passes historic houses and follows the Emån. Eight historic buildings from the local rural heritage can be visited there. The old houses were moved from surrounding villages and offer a tangible glimpse into the history of rural architecture. The walking trail is also suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. If you want to combine historic buildings with a waterside walk, you can enjoy both on the same route.

The name Lanhagen also has a historical connection: it is linked to eel fishing that once took place in the Emån. This points to an earlier use of the river and adds another aspect of local history to the story of the houses.

Högsby Church by the Emån

Högsby Church offers a different cultural and historical focus. It is centrally located in the village of Högsby by the Emån and has a slender tower dating from 1885. The church also houses two late-medieval altarpieces. Together, the tower and altarpieces represent different periods: the tower is dated to a specific year, while the altarpieces date back to the late Middle Ages. Those interested in architectural history and sacred art will find two tangible points of interest in the same church.

Exercise on the Trollbergsrundan

The Trollbergsrundan offers a different focus. It is a two-kilometre exercise trail in Högsby, with twelve signs featuring exercises. Its focus clearly differs from the walking trail through Lanhagen: here, exercise stations define the route, while historic houses and the path along the Emån take centre stage there. This gives you a clear choice when planning your day: an exercise trail with specifically named exercises, or a walk combining the river and rural heritage.

Fika and a Greta Garbo museum

At Bigården vid Hornsberg, the local beekeepers’ association invites visitors to enjoy fika. Visits are intended for both members and the general public. If you would like to include a visit in your plans, check in advance whether a visit is possible.

Another cultural reference is Greta Garbo. A 2013 report described Högsby as the home of the world’s only Greta Garbo museum. If the museum is important to your travel plans, check before your trip whether visits are possible.
