Fagerhult – Trails, Local History and Välen Swimming Area
Accommodation in Fagerhult
Fagerhult offers specific reasons to visit for nature, outdoor activities and local history: the Välen swimming area, two trails of equal length and Fagerhult Church. The village lies east of Lake Välen, on flat to gently rolling, sandy moraine terrain.
Trails and landscape
Fagerhultsrundan is a 2.5-kilometre circular trail with twelve information boards; the starting point is at the school in Fagerhult. The illuminated ElljusspĂĄr starts at Fagerhults skola and is also 2.5 kilometres long. So when choosing between them, the main consideration is their different character: a circular route and information boards on Fagerhultsrundan, and lighting on ElljusspĂĄr.
The landscape itself is also a point of reference. The flat to gently rolling topography and sandy moraine terrain describe the surroundings in which the two trails lie. Together, the specific trail features and a landscape of gentle elevation changes and sandy ground offer a sense of the area.
Välen and fishing from the shore
Välen is a swimming area in Fagerhult. Lake Välen is nearby; it is up to 18 metres deep, with an average depth of about four metres. The opportunities for fishing from the shore are generally considered good, especially on the east side of the lake. Suitable fishing spots are located at Välsgärde and Hällaklint, near the Välen swimming area in the southwest, and at the road bridge in the southeast of the lake. Access for fishing and local rules can change; check the current conditions before your visit.
Church and traces of the past
Fagerhults kyrka was built in 1894 and is one of the more elaborate Neo-Gothic churches in Kalmar County. An altarpiece from the 15th century was transferred from the old church to today’s Fagerhults kyrka. The building thus brings together the Neo-Gothic design of the late 19th century and a furnishing from a much earlier period. The cemetery at Fagerhults kyrka is also believed to have existed since the 14th century.
Northeast of Fagerhult, in the village of Ringhult, are the remains of Ringhults borg, a fortified medieval manor. This historical landmark differs from Fagerhult’s religious architecture: here, the focus is on the remains of a fortified manor. In the village of Liskatorp in Fagerhult, Liskatorps Gårdsmuseum, a farm museum, adds a rural perspective to the historical themes.
