Cycling and outdoor activities

The red cycling route RÖD SLINGA runs from Berga via Basebo, Bohult, Släthult and Kalvenäs, and back to Berga. It is 29 kilometres long. Route conditions may change; check them before setting off.

The Lövhällängsrundan in the Lövhälläng area of Berga is a 1.8-kilometre activity trail with 12 different signs. There are also illuminated exercise trails of 1.5 and 2.5 kilometres at Trädgårdsgatan 37. At 1.8 kilometres, the activity trail falls between the two exercise trail lengths. This makes it possible to compare the distances, while the trails remain different types of routes.

The suggested cycling routes around Berga run partly along gravel or asphalt roads and partly along easy forest paths. Responsibility for road maintenance and path standards varies. Before setting off, check the specific route and current conditions.

A cycling route north of Berga passes through an attractive cultural landscape and offers beautiful views of Älgsjön. Views and route conditions may vary depending on the season.

Railways, roads and local history

Berga’s development is linked to the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century. Berga’s railway station complex is of cultural and historical interest and includes a well-preserved station, an engine shed and old industrial buildings. Railway history is therefore one of the themes that shape the town alongside its cycling routes.

A land route is also part of the town’s history: the old main road through Berga is traditionally called Kungsvägen and was historically the land route between Kalmar and Stockholm.

Berga Church in the Högsby parish was completed in 1959 and inaugurated on 12 December that year. The church is open daily from 7:00 to 16:30.

North of Berga, by Älgsjön, lies the Elsabo manor setting, dating from the early 20th century. The area around Berga also includes Skruvshult, with an older village centre and two relatively well-preserved farm complexes. The two settings have different character: Elsabo is associated with a manor setting, while Skruvshult is known for its village centre and farm complexes.

Cafés and local culture

Café 3 århundraden is located in an old school in Berga and serves homemade pastries. The café also has an antiques shop with a flea market area. If you’re planning to visit the café, check its current opening hours in advance.

Berga Bio & Teater is run by a local community association; it is also home to Emådalens Filmstudio.
