Padise stands out for its historic ensemble and the way its architectural heritage is set within a forested landscape. Padise Manor House is located next to Padise Monastery; together, they form one of the most significant historical and architectural complexes in Lääne-Harjumaa. The area’s attractions include exhibitions and tours, as well as music, craft activities and trails through a landscape shaped mainly by pine forest.

Monastery, Manor House and Culture

The permanent exhibition “Südame ja mõistmisega” at Padise Monastery explores the monastery and the significance of the Cistercians. Padise Manor House offers tours about the history of the area. This brings together two distinct historical perspectives: the exhibition focuses on the monastery and its order, while the tours explore the history of the area. Thanks to its excellent acoustics and special atmosphere, the monastery’s church hall is a popular concert venue.

Festivals, Crafts and Educational Programmes

St Bernard’s Day is held once a year at Padise Monastery as a medieval festival. The programme for the 2026 edition included a market, workshops and activities for the whole family. In the “Vahast metallini” workshop, participants use a beeswax model they have designed themselves to create a pendant, key ring or piece of jewellery. The emphasis is on making something yourself rather than simply looking at it.

Padise Monastery offers an educational programme for kindergarten and school groups that combines an introduction to the medieval monastery with educational workshops. The availability of individual subsidised programmes may vary from one school year to the next.

Trails and Landscape

Padise’s fitness and ski trails run through a varied landscape shaped mainly by pine forest; part of the route follows the banks of the Kloostri River. Forest sections and riverbanks give the trails described here different connections to the landscape. If you enjoy outdoor activities, you can consider this alongside the historical attractions when deciding whether Padise is right for you. A 1.7-kilometre section of the Padise health trail forms a 3.4-kilometre illuminated loop. According to the operating information, the lights are on every evening until 11 p.m.; please check the operating hours before your visit. The loop is therefore twice as long as the section.

A Culinary Highlight and Travel Planning

Padise Kastell Café is located in an old stable building. Its menu is based on Estonian culinary traditions while also incorporating influences from international cuisine. When looking for hotels in Padise, consider what kind of day you have in mind: are you more interested in historic sites and cultural attractions, or does getting outdoors in a landscape of pine forest and riverbanks appeal to you more?
