When planning a trip to Storvik, it’s worth first deciding what you want to focus on: in summer, the family-friendly Storviksbadet is open, with heated outdoor pools and lawns; nature, outdoor activities and history offer other options. If you’re looking for a hotel in Storvik, consider whether swimming, hiking, running and skiing, or a visit focused on cultural history will shape your stay. Hohällan lies five kilometres northwest of the town; the sports centre and Storviks kyrka add other specific themes to choose from.

Hohällan: Nature Reserve and Hiking Trail

The Hohällan Nature Reserve covers 18 hectares and is crossed by the Gästrikeleden hiking trail. At the top of the mountain, there is a wind shelter and a fire pit for breaks. This makes it possible to plan your visit around the trail and a place to stop: Gästrikeleden runs through the protected area, while the facilities mentioned are located at the summit. Conditions on the hiking trail may vary; the wind shelter and fire pit may be affected by maintenance or weather.

Sports and Summer Swimming

Storvik sports centre has a ski stadium and illuminated running trails of 15 and 10.5 kilometres. This makes it distinct from the trail through Hohällan: the sports centre offers a ski stadium and two specific running distances, while the nature reserve has a hiking trail running through it. The two routes differ by 4.5 kilometres. If you’re weighing up running and nature experiences for your stay, you can choose between the two running trails and the route through the protected area.

Storviksbadet is a family-friendly swimming facility with heated outdoor pools and lawns; it is open in summer. Its seasonal opening makes it a clear summer option when planning your trip. Unlike Hohällan, this is about swimming in outdoor pools, not hiking through a nature reserve. If you’d like to combine swimming and nature, you can include a visit to the swimming facility as a seasonal activity alongside your outdoor pursuits.

Church and Industrial History

Storviks kyrka stands on a pine-covered moraine hill in the centre of Storvik. It was inaugurated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1960. Its location in the town and the wooded hill give your visit a tangible connection to the surroundings; the inauguration date places the church’s history in context. During school terms, it is open on Wednesdays from 08:30 to 11:00. You can take these hours into account when planning a visit.

The Wetterlings axe factory was founded in 1880 by Sven Axel Wetterling and is one of Sweden’s oldest axe factories still in operation. This brings together a specific founding year and a comparison within Sweden: the year marks the beginning, while the comparison places the factory among the country’s axe factories. Tours of the factory are possible. If you’re interested in the history of industrial craftsmanship, you could consider a tour as a separate activity and check in advance whether one is available for your preferred visit.
