Art and Industrial History along the Ljusnan

In Ljusne, art and industrial history meet river experiences along the Ljusnan and a route to Ljusne harbour. Konstkraft Ljusne is housed in two buildings. They contain wooden sculptures by Lennart Plahn. On the upper floor of the power station building, a permanent exhibition opened in 2020 preserves the artist’s life’s work. Konstkraft also includes a 103-metre-long graffiti wall that is accessible around the clock every day. During the summer season, Konstkraft Ljusne organises Paint Jams where everyone can try graffiti.

The industrial past can be explored further at Bruksmuseum i Ljusne. The museum presents the lives and work of labourers in Ljusne around the turn of the 20th century. Current opening hours should be checked with the museum. Ljusne hyttmuseum displays firefighting equipment made in Ljusne and a 19th-century ore crusher. The museum also includes a fine forge that is in operation on certain days. Nearby is Lennart Plahns sagoskog, with carved wooden artworks and wooden figures by the artist, who was from Ljusne.

Another historical feature is Ljusne kyrka, which was inaugurated in 1896. It was built in a style that is unusually rare in Sweden. The interior is characterised by brown wood and numerous carved columns. Visits are possible by telephone appointment.

Promenade, Park and Harbour

The Ljusne Promenade runs through Bruksparken and along the Ljusnan river. Its sections through the park and along the river are picturesque. A longer option crosses the road bridge to Ljusne harbour and continues towards the pilot station. Along the way, the promenade passes the former chain factory and the power station, which now house Konstkraft Ljusne.

The Ljusne torg bus stop can be used when travelling to the promenade. There are car parks by the Ljusne Promenade; the area by Ljusnefjärden is suggested as one option. Bruksparken also has a boules court and several benches with tables. This makes it possible to combine the cultural sites with a walk along the Ljusnan and time in the park, without separating the location’s themes from one another.

Paddling and Fishing on the Water

For the Ljusne paddling tour, there are launch points on the north bank of the Ljusnan in Ljusne and on the south bank by Ljusnefors Camping. Both locations have car parks and suitable launch areas. The tour passes Lillgrytan, which has a small lighthouse keeper’s house. A jetty connects the island to the mainland.

Fishing is also a specific part of the local offering along the Ljusnan. Ljusne Sportfiskeklubb manages the lower Ljusnan from the Höljebro kraftverk weir to the freshwater boundary at the sea. Sea trout are the main focus of sport fishing. Salmon and trout fishing is possible below the power station in Ljusne. The short-term fishing area covers approximately 9 km of the lower Ljusnan and is divided into three sections.

Cross-Country Skiing in Hömyra

Those who want to combine a visit to Ljusne with cross-country skiing in winter will find illuminated ski trails in Hömyra near Ljusne, measuring 1.6 km and 2.5 km. Hömyra also has a waxing cabin and changing rooms. Alongside culture, walks and water activities, this provides a clearly defined winter sports option, without implying anything about snow conditions.
