Discover Hanebo: Church, Forest and Culture
Accommodation in Hanebo
Hanebo can be explored through Hanebo kyrka, the landscape around the church and nearby natural attractions. There are several themes to shape your travel plans around: architectural history, forests and wetlands, and routes to viewpoints and historic sites. This can help you decide which topics interest you during your stay.
Church and Landscape
Hanebo kyrka was already in existence at the beginning of the 14th century. Based on its appearance, parts of its masonry may date from the late 12th or early 13th century. The information therefore refers to different aspects: the church itself dates back to the beginning of the 14th century, while the earlier dating applies only to parts of the masonry and is a possibility. Kyrkbytjärnen is part of the natural landscape around the church.
The Djupsjön-Römmaberget nature reserve offers a different focus as a nearby natural area. It includes ancient forest, wetlands around Djupsjön and a 450-year-old pine. There is a car park and rest area on the north side of the lake; from there, a trail leads into the primeval forest. The terrain varies depending on the stretch of shoreline. Those wishing to focus their trip on forests and bodies of water will find specific landscape features here rather than a general nature theme.
Trails and Natural Attractions
Another nearby protected area lies seven kilometres southeast of Kilafors. At Kölberget, a hiking trail crosses rocky outcrops, boulder-strewn terrain and older spruce forest before reaching a viewpoint at the summit. The route description therefore combines a clear destination with an equally specific landscape: the trail is defined by rock and large boulders as well as older spruce forest.
Knupbodarnas fäbodvall also combines nature and cultural history. The nearby summer pasture is one of the best-preserved in Hälsingland and dates back to the late 17th century; the site includes around 20 wooden buildings. The Hälsingeleden trail passes through the fäbodvall. A trail of around two kilometres also leads from the site to the summit of Digerberget.
History and Cultural Sites
The Ol-Nils family history can be traced back to 16th-century tax registers. In Bofara, Sven-Olles model museum in the Museilogen displays models and inventions. There are more than 200 exhibits across the entire site; this figure refers to the site, not just the model museum. If you are interested in these topics, you can explore family history and the model exhibition as distinct cultural highlights.
Lövlundsskolan in Kilafors is a well-preserved village school. Biografteatern Kilafors has two auditoriums: a cinema auditorium with 194 seats and the smaller Mingelsalongen. Further afield in the region, Hårgaberget has a lookout tower and a shelter.
Sävtorpet in Acktjära, Linskäkten in Svedja and Edhs Snickerimuseum can be visited through Hanebo Hembygdsförening. If you plan to visit any of these sites, contact the association in advance to check current visiting arrangements.
Whether you are more interested in historic buildings, forest and wetland landscapes, or the history of individual places, these destinations offer different ways to explore Hanebo and its wider surroundings.
