Winter and Active Days

Edsbybacken is a ski slope on Gårdtjärnsberget in Edsbyn. In the Bäckområdet, the municipality maintains a cross-country ski trail; grooming may vary depending on winter conditions. If cross-country skiing is important to your trip, take these changing conditions into account when planning.

The trails and routes in Edsbyn mapped by Ovanåkers stigcyklister can be used for cycling, running and hiking; some are also suitable for cross-country skiing in winter. Seasonal availability may vary. Unlike the ski slope, these routes can be used for several types of activity.

Edsbyn Arena is Sweden’s first indoor bandy arena. It adds a distinctive aspect of local history to the options for sports enthusiasts.

Local History and Culture

Edsbyns Museum features exhibitions about Hans Lidman and Lim-Johan, as well as folk art and rural culture. It also has a replica of a general store as it looked from the turn of the century through the 1940s. The themes range from named personalities and cultural subjects to a concrete scene from everyday life.

On Edsbyn’s cultural trail, 14 signs with pictures and text provide information about early Edsbyn. Mårtes Hembygdsgård is located in the town center and comprises about thirty buildings. A signposted trail about the town’s early history and a site with a complex of many buildings offer different ways to explore local cultural history.

In the wider region around Edsbyn and Alfta are Jon-Lars and Pallars, two of Hälsingland’s seven World Heritage farms. They add a broader regional perspective to the local history.

Walking Trails and Pilgrim Route

Hälsans stig in Edsbyn is marked with signs and several overview maps. You can start and end your walk anywhere along the trail. This flexibility sets it apart from a route with fixed endpoints.

The Hoppet pilgrimage route is about 7 km long and runs from S:t Olofs kapell in Edsbyn to Ovanåkers kyrka. It follows Gamla landsvägen near the Voxnan River. Along the way, hikers pass mile markers and farms, including the Hoppet farm.

The difference is clear when choosing between the trails: on Hälsans stig, you can choose your own start and end points; Hoppet has an approximate length and named starting and ending points.

Swimming, Disc Golf and Nature Experiences

Centrally located Edsbyns simhall has two pools and a sauna. The large swimming pool is 25 meters long; there is also a smaller children’s pool.

Edsbyns Discgolfbana is free to use and is located in the central Bäck activity area in the town center. In the forest by the Bäck activity area, Barnens Bäck features various figures and forest creatures. The area is open to everyone.

At Björnsafari, you can rent a private bear hide. Check booking and operating details before your trip, as they may change.
