Morud: Forest Trails, Water and History
Accommodation in Morud
Morud has a direct city bus connection to Odense. Cycling routes lead from here to Veflinge, Søndersø and the Bredbjerg residential area, which lies close to the municipal boundary with Odense. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore consider a range of interests: connections to the city, cycling trips and the nearby landscape of forests and lakes.
Getting around by bus and bike
The direct city bus connection to Odense offers a way to include both Morud and a visit to the city in your travel plans. Bus routes may change, so check the current timetable before travelling. If you are planning to cycle, routes lead to Veflinge and Søndersø, as well as to the Bredbjerg residential area. As conditions on cycling routes can change, it is a good idea to check the latest local route information. These destinations provide specific directions for cycling days without requiring a particular journey time.
Langesø: lake, forest and glacial landscape
Near Morud lies Langesø, a narrow, 1.3-kilometre-long lake at the heart of a forest and castle area. A three-kilometre path around the lake winds through a landscape shaped by the Ice Age, passing giant fir trees and offering views of the castle. The Langesøskoven forest is also home to giant Douglas firs and California coastal redwoods. The path thus brings together several distinctive landscape features, while its length provides a practical guide when planning a walk.
The formation of the terrain is also part of Langesø’s character: at the end of the last Ice Age, a large flow of meltwater carved deep into the ground and formed what is known as a tunnel valley. The term describes a valley created by meltwater flowing beneath the ice. The lake, forest and landform can therefore be understood as parts of one connected landscape, rather than focusing only on individual viewpoints or tree species.
Seasonal swimming and other activities
Morud Friluftsbad is open seasonally from 5 June to 31 August. It offers swimming, games and social time in the sun. Alongside a walk through the forest landscape, a day at the pool is another option to include in your travel plans. Check the current operating schedule before visiting this seasonal facility.
Langesø Golf has an 18-hole woodland course in a natural setting beside a beautiful lake. The woodland course offers a different focus from a walk: here, golf takes centre stage amid the surrounding landscape.
Ditlevsdal Bison Farm offers guided bison safaris throughout the year. Depending on guests’ interest in asking questions, a safari lasts around 45 to 55 minutes and takes place in an open-sided, covered wagon. For planning your day, an approximate time range is more useful than a fixed duration; confirm tour dates and arrangements before travelling.
A chapel, a mill and a shelter near Morud
Langesø Skovkapel was built in 1870 as a castle chapel and a church for local residents. Guided tours can be arranged by agreement with the pastor. Nearby Morud is also Tværskov Mølle, a listed watermill dating from 1730 that operated as a mill until 1950. As it is privately owned, its buildings can only be viewed from the road. The viewing options are therefore quite different: a tour of the chapel requires an arrangement, while the mill can only be seen from the road.
The shelter near Morud cannot be reserved; it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. It has a fire pit with a grill grate and a nearby toilet. As access rules and facilities can change, check the current conditions before visiting. For planning purposes, the main thing to know is that the shelter cannot be booked in advance.
