Allinge-Sandvig: Churches, coast and the Kyststien
Accommodation in Allinge-Sandvig
Allinge-Sandvig brings together different travel interests: churches with a coastal and island character, a pavilion on Sandvig beach, and a section of the Kyststien that ends here. The places and landscapes mentioned offer different ways to decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.

Churches and a pavilion by the sea
The simple coastal church Allinge Kirke, also known as St. Nicholas Church, offers views of the harbour and bay. Sandvig Kirke has a different character: it is small and bright, with a simple island feel. If you are interested in the churches in both towns, you will find two distinct descriptions at this destination—the coastal setting with harbour views in Allinge and the bright, understated design in Sandvig.
A wooden pavilion from the early 20th century stands on Sandvig beach and is considered a local landmark. It is used for gatherings and events, or as a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the sea. The pavilion therefore combines a practical purpose with the opportunity to take in the sea views during your stay.
The Kyststien and nearby landscapes
If hiking is part of your travel plans, the end point of a stage can also be a useful landmark: the second stage of the Kyststien ends in Sandvig. It is the Hasle–Sandvig stage; Sandvig is the island’s northernmost town.
Nearby, between Allinge and Sandvig, Moseløkken is set in a wooded area. The quarry is Bornholm’s last active hammer-granite quarry and is located right next to the ruins of Hammershus. The ruins are described as the largest medieval fortress in Scandinavia. The Hammerknuden peninsula, which has numerous viewpoints, is also near Allinge-Sandvig. The quarry, fortress ruins and viewpoints offer different points of interest for travellers who want to explore the landscape or history.
Bornholm as a wider travel destination
For a broader trip, Bornholm should be distinguished from the particular features of Allinge-Sandvig. The island can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad in Sweden to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. Check current schedules and crossing times with the operator before travelling.
Bornholm’s landscapes also offer their own perspectives: from the cliffs above Opal Lake, you can look out over the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the castle ruins of Hammershus. The Hammershus visitor centre offers panoramic views of Hammershus. Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley. These places are on Bornholm and are not features of the townscape of Allinge-Sandvig.
Bornholm also offers a range of themes for those interested in culture. Bornholms Middelaldercenter is a 15-hectare open-air museum that brings 14th-century Bornholm to life in an informative and interactive way. At the NaturBornholm experience centre, you can see dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition; exhibitions may change.
The smokehouse tradition is another part of the wider Bornholm destination: Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, where herring has been smoked ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood. If you are looking for a hotel in Allinge-Sandvig, these different interests can help you decide whether you want your stay to focus mainly on the churches, the Kyststien and the nearby landscapes, or also include other places on Bornholm.
