Trensum between Coastal Trail and History
Accommodation in Trensum
The Eriksbergsleden runs along the sea through a landscape of rocky beaches and lush forests. Törneryds gamla skolhus in Trensum offers a different way to explore history.
Coastal Landscape and Wildlife
The Eriksbergsleden runs between the entrance to Eriksberg Vilt & Natur and Björnahemmet and is about 12 kilometers long. The Eriksberg Nature Reserve is home to red deer, fallow deer, Père David’s deer, mouflons, wild boar, and European bison. The trail offers a coastal experience, while the reserve’s wildlife provides a different focus on nature. Its approximately twelve-kilometer length helps you gauge the route for your day’s plans, but it is not a walking time. The actual duration depends on your pace and the breaks you take along the way.
Church History and Architecture
The present-day Åryds kyrka was built in 1872. It is designed in the Neo-Romanesque style and made of grey stone, with brick surrounds around its doors and windows. The church houses an altarpiece by Josef Svanlund, painted in Florence in 1911. The painting was created 39 years after the present church was built. Åryd’s oldest church probably dates to the 13th century and was dedicated to Saint Ursula.
At Törneryds gamla skolhus, visitors can see an old classroom and a teacher’s residence from the early 20th century. The schoolhouse is located in Trensum. Also located there are a former branch of Åryds sparbank and an exhibition featuring a shoemaker’s workshop. Together, these exhibits cover school life, domestic life, and the history of banking and crafts. The cultural attractions offer different ways to explore the past: at Åryds kyrka, Neo-Romanesque architecture and sacred art, including the altarpiece, shape the experience, while Törneryds gamla skolhus focuses on everyday history. You can choose between architecture and everyday history as your focus.
Summer Café and Swedish Cuisine
The summer café at Riksdagsmannagården is seasonal. It serves waffles, Neapolitan sourdough pizza, and grilled sandwiches made with local ingredients. Restaurant Visenten offers Swedish food cooked from scratch, using ingredients from its own farm and neighboring farms. The two venues have different focuses: the café is shaped by the season and its specifically named dishes, while Visenten is defined by its cuisine and the origins of its ingredients. The restaurant’s menu may change; if you have a particular dish in mind, check the current selection.
Explore by Bicycle
Outdoor Eriksberg offers bicycle rentals, giving you the chance to explore the surrounding area outside the wildlife enclosure. Rentals are seasonal, and operating details may change. Check in advance whether the service is available for your travel dates.
